Getty Center and Museum With The Parents

When my parents arrived earlier this spring, one of the first places we stopped was the Getty Center Museum. (I made them stop at the beach first, but that is another post)

If you have never been to the Getty Center, I highly recommend it. The exhibits feature European and American art throughout much of history. Much of the European art is religious in nature so while the execution is impressive, it’s not my parents’ cup of tea.

When we visited the Getty, there was a photography exhibit called “Paper Promises” that I really enjoyed. It was compromised, primarily, of early photos from America. The peek into everyday life of the wealthy in early America was interesting but one of my favorites was a set of pictures of Abraham Lincoln.

The exhibit included some great photos of America’s landscape long before it was developed like it is today. America was and still is quite a beautiful place.

The grounds of the museum are quite lovely and very modern. Even though it was pretty cold for Los Angeles that day, we spent a fair amount of time walking around outside taking pictures of not only the grounds but of LA as well. The gardens at the Getty offer a stunning view of the city in panorama.

We arrived at the museum fairly late in the day so we got the sun setting over the 405 freeway. I think my dad now has shots of the LA skyline from just about every angle possible now. I took this photo from one of the vantage points just as the sun set.
