Washi Tape Dispenser and Tapes

Since I decided to pull out all my Washi Tapes and use them instead of letting them lounge in a box, I thought I should get some dispensers to make getting it off the roll a little easier. If you aren’t familiar with washi tape, it originates from Japan and is low tack & repositionable. The tape is made from a type of mulberry tree.

I wandered over to the Daiso near me to look for an inexpensive tape dispenser and found these:

They look simple and easy to use, going by the instructions.

That was an incorrect assumption – these are just awful. With nothing to support your pulling on the tape, like a regular dispenser, it’s more difficult than pulling the tape off the roll. The width didn’t really fit the width of my tapes either.

Instead of being bummed about my first Daiso fail, I played with my tapes! These are a lot, you might recognize a few of theme from previous posts. I purchased these MT Tapes as a group:

In the background, you can see a few I’ll show later. One says, “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. How I wonder where you are.”

Below are a few off-brand and American brand tapes. The circuit board styled tape is Scotch and it doesn’t have great adhesive. It’s stuck to itself and hard to get off the roll.

As you can see – I could fit two skinny tapes on one dispenser, but that didn’t help. I don’t normally like gold, but this tape had a nice coppery tone to the gold that appealed to me. This is one of my favorites and I’ll be sad when I’ve used it up.

A few of my other favorite tapes are Totoro ones I found at a little gift shop for Ghibli fans in Sunshine City, Ikebukuro.
