The Way Back Machine Saves the Internet

I love the internet and hate it at the same time. It’s full of wonder and horror in equal measure. I mean, where else can you find the cutest pictures of animals and snuff porn on the same page? At least at a library you have to dig for it….

When I started getting back into writing a couple of years ago, during a stint of unemployment, I knew that I would be putting this site back together but I hadn’t thought to archive everything. I know, huge mistake. I go through the process in my professional life, but not on my own stuff. I had saved many of the posts in Evernote, but not everything got saved and well, Evernote is a mess. I don’t like their interface any longer, but I did years ago.

Fast forward to this year, I’ve been piecing things back together from my old sites and from random places on the internet that I have posted. My savior in all of this was Archive.Org’s Way Back Machine. It has been super helpful in pulling up my old pages and images as I originally formatted them.

The content is also scattered across my computer, because I thought I had a really good filing system on my computer, but I do not in reality.

There are couple of other archive tools that I really like as well:

  • https://tweetsave.com/ – to book mark old tweets
  • http://archive.li/ – to book mark and archive a URL

What tools do you use?
